Microblading or Semi Permanent Makeup

Microblading or Semi Permanent Makeup?

Microblading is a very popular method for achieving perfect eyebrows, but is it the best treatment for perfect brows? Many microblading advertisements use the term “microblading semi-permanent makeup.” This is somewhat misleading, as microblading and semi-permanent makeup are different processes with different results.

Microblading uses a handheld pen-like tool with a “blade” attached to cut the skin beneath the eyebrow and apply pigment. The microblading blade comprises fine needles dipped in pigment and drawn along the skin. The technician continues applying individual hair strokes of pigment until the eyebrow looks dense. The pigment depth results from the pressure the technician applies. Too little pressure and the pigment in the skin is expelled over a few weeks. Too much pressure will cause the process to become very painful, and there is a high risk of scarring.

Semi Permanent Makeup

Semi-permanent makeup uses micropigmentation to implant pigment into the skin. Micropigmentation uses a specialist machine and handpiece with a needle attached. The needle dipped in pigment, with accurate vibration, implants the pigment accurately into the skin in a series of minute punch holes. The adjustment of the needle tip sets the depth of pigment so the pigment lasts for 2 to 3 years. Microblading relies on the technician’s ability to accurately apply the same pressure to implant the pigment at the correct depth. Semi-permanent makeup relies on the technician’s skill to set the needle depth correctly so the pigment implants into the skin correctly.

So which one to choose?

We recommend micropigmentation and semi-permanent makeup. Semi-permanent makeup can implant pigment at the exact and correct depth for the pigment to last in the skin for 2 to 3 years. Microblading is not as exact and relies heavily on the technician to apply the correct pressure level to each pigment stroke. If performed correctly, Microblading can last for a maximum of 6 months.

Your next eyebrow treatment

So, for your next eyebrow treatment, choose the correct treatment, microblading or semi-permanent makeup. Microblading lasts 6 months, and semi-permanent makeup lasts 2 to 3 years. Don’t be fooled; some offer microblading semi-permanent makeup, which is simply a way to confuse. The best way to check treatment quality is to ask how it is performed. Microblading uses a blade to scratch the skin, and semi-permanent makeup uses a machine and needle to punch holes in the skin.
